Snow Removal
In the winter, parking on the Village streets can cause problems during snow removal. By Village Ordinance when there is accumulation of two or more inches of snow, residents are asked not to park on the streets. This gives the street department the opportunity to plow the streets.
Under regular snowfalls Thornville's Street crew is dispatched with salt and cinders to do sensible salting (not 100% of pavement, but only the critical part in order to help the environment and vegetation adjacent to the streets without sacrificing the safety of the traveling public.)
The school routes are treated first with the main arterials in order to help emergency vehicles, school buses, and Police and Fire equipment to reach their destinations.
During the winter months, operators are on call 24 hours a day, ready to answer at any time. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to remove the snow in the entire Village after a fall bringing 3 inches of precipitation. In general, if a major storm is forecasted (between 10 inches and above), the crews will stay on the job until everything has been cleaned up.
